Is the most awesome sport ever! For those of you not familiar with it, it is a high school sport that involves running a 5k race over various terrain. Last Saturday my team went to a really big invitational meet far away. The junior varsity race was in the middle of the day so it was really hot when I was running. The race couse wound around a bunch of fields in a park. In the first mile I passed a bunch of people on my team who were usually faster than me. Hmm, they're going to pass me later... I thought. But they didn't. So I kept up the pace for the second mile. I passed a few more people I didn't know. Then we came to the third mile. After going over a tiny "hill" and weaving around a bunch of trees, we were finally in sight of the finish line. At around the last 100 meters I started sprinting. I almost caught up to the girl in front of me, but she started sprinting too. We ended up finishing within a second of each other. When they handed me a card with my place on it after we crossed the finish line, I almost couldn't believe it. In a race with 100 or so people in it, I had come in fifth. I even got a shiny medal at the awards ceremony in the end! Yay!
